After four decades of providing quality preschool care, ICC opened a new, state-of-the-art Children’s Center on New York Avenue in September 2007. Enrollment jumped to 150 children, demonstrating the need for the center and deepening our long-term commitment to serving the youngest members of our community.
Children at the center learn in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where they are encouraged to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. The Children’s Center prepares them to be successful learners who will contribute to Ironbound’s diverse community. The program has been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), which promotes positive relationships between staff and students, a multi-faceted curriculum, and strong program management, and has been recognized as one of the highest-quality Abbott preschools in New Jersey.
The preschool offers families a host of complementary wrap-around services, such as our family worker and mental health programs. Our family workers are trained community members who help parents navigate a number of useful services. Our mental health professionals work with children on the challenges they face during this critical stage of their development. Staff work around the schedules of busy parents and their children — in their own language — to make sure they have access to a myriad of opportunities that will help them strengthen their families.
