Ironbound’s Early Childhood Education Program, or Preschool, is located in the Ironbound Early Learning Center at 1 New York Avenue. The Preschool together with Ironbound’s Early Head Start Program form a high quality Birth-5 Early Learning Center.
Ironbound’s Preschool, originally called the Ironbound Children’s Center, was founded in 1969 and has been nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since 1988 – Newark’s first community-based accredited program. In NAEYC’s most recent accreditation, ICC received 95% or better in all evaluative criteria.
High quality programming is critical to deliver the outcomes necessary for a child’s educational strong foundation. This is especially true of children who may not have all of the resources of wealthier peers. In fact, past studies have shown that children entering ICC’s Preschool are typically 18-24 months behind in language and literacy development. Through a strong and effective education and nurturing program, illustrated by ECERS scores typically in the mid-upper 6’s, ICC closes this gap and prepares children for Kindergarten. Children not only develop the necessary tools and foundations, from vocabulary to socialization, to succeed, they are instilled with a love of learning and curiosity that motivates them in and out of school.
The Ironbound Early Learning Center is a great, happy place for children and families – providing the best in care, nurturing, education, and support.
