Special Panel Discussion in Celebration of Black History Month:
“The History & Future of Black Political Influence in Newark and Beyond”
In honor of Black History Month, Ironbound Community Corporation is proud to host a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “The History and Future of Black Political Influence in Newark and Beyond.” This event will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Newark Public Library, 4th Floor Auditorium.
This special discussion will explore the evolution of Black political influence in Newark and across the nation, highlighting historical milestones, local movements, and contemporary leadership. The panel aims to honor the enduring contributions of Black leaders, examine strategies for sustaining political influence, and discuss the role of activism and policy in advancing equity.
“It is crucial that we empower Black communities, by raising awareness about the challenges posed by systemic inequalities. We must also develop strategies to dismantle these oppressive systems and establish a framework that fosters prosperity for individuals from all backgrounds.”
“The challenges faced by Black individuals are fundamentally tied to the injustices of a system that was intentionally designed to oppress,” says CEO Hazel Applewhite.
Ironbound Community Corporation invites community members, activists, scholars, and local leaders to attend this important event. Admission is free, and all are welcome to join in this vital conversation about Newark’s past, present, and future.
