Ironbound Community Corporation’s Black History Month Panel Discussion a Resounding Success
Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC) is proud to announce the tremendous success of our Black History Month panel discussion, The History and Future of Black Political Influence in Newark and Beyond, held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the historic Newark Public Library. The event brought together an audience of community leaders, advocates, and residents for a powerful and thought-provoking conversation about the legacy and future of Black political leadership.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our esteemed panelists—James Gee, Shavar Jeffries, Jeannine LaRue, and Richard Roper—who shared their invaluable insights and experiences, shedding light on the impact of Black leadership in Newark and beyond. A special thank you to our incredible moderator, Dr. Sherri-Ann Butterfield, for expertly guiding the discussion and fostering meaningful dialogue.
The event was an inspiring testament to the power of community engagement, historical reflection, and forward-thinking advocacy. Attendees participated in a robust discussion on Black political influence, grassroots activism, and strategies for sustaining leadership and equity in our communities.
“We are honored to have hosted such a meaningful and timely conversation,” said Hazel Applewhite, CEO of Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC). “The insights shared by our panelists and moderator will continue to inspire and inform our efforts to uplift and empower communities of color in Newark, especially as we work together to navigate and shape the political landscape today and in the future.” –Hazel Applewhite, ICC CEO
Ironbound Community Corporation thanks everyone who attended and contributed to this impactful event. We look forward to continuing these critical conversations and working collectively toward a more just and equitable future.
