On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Hazel Applewhite, CEO of Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC), delivered a compelling keynote address at Hudson County Community College’s “College Service Day.”
Speaking to a room filled with educators and staff, Applewhite highlighted their critical role as catalysts for diversity and representation, encouraging them to continue fostering an inclusive environment where students can thrive. Applewhite emphasized how ICC serves as the voice of the diverse disadvantaged Ironbound community, advocating for equitable opportunities and services.
Applewhite also spotlighted ICC’s ongoing fight against the proposed fourth natural gas power plant by the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC), stressing its potential harm to the community.
