Newark, NJ — August 12, 2025, The Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC) is proud to announce that today, Hazel Applewhite, CEO of ICC, was officially sworn in as a Commissioner on the City of Newark’s Equitable Growth Advisory Commission. Hazel’s appointment follows an invitation from Mayor Ras J. Baraka, recognizing her steadfast leadership, advocacy, and dedication to advancing equity across the city.

The swearing-in marks a significant moment not only for Hazel but for the entire ICC community. As Commissioner, Hazel will work alongside other civic leaders to develop strategies, recommendations, and policies that promote equitable economic growth, address systemic disparities, and ensure that all Newark residents—regardless of neighborhood—have access to opportunity.
